The Audio Technica ATH M50X is a fantastic and popular set of headphones. The ATH M50XBT2 simply adds Bluetooth features on top. All the things that are great about the ATH M50X are still here. Without a massive jump up in price.

Comfortable and durable the low-end thump is a highlight if you are a DJ or lover of bass thanks to the large frequency range. These headphones are also very loud. Bluetooth integration is clean with easy-to-access buttons. An attractive over-ear headphone that delivers in the audio department.

Mackie MC-40BT Review

• Balanced Sound – Mackie has managed to translate the impressive sound from the MC series into this new Bluetooth model. Well-rounded, satisfying, and more neutral than most DJ headphones.
• Soft Padding – The padding on both the headband and on the ear cups is very soft. The clamping force is also not overly tight. Great comfort for long listening sessions.
• Dependable Connectivity – Bluetooth connection is exceptionally stable and very responsive. No lag between button presses and quick pairing. Perfect execution.
• Modern Design – Stylish appearance that features just enough accents to give these headphones their own identity. But equally not overdone like many headphones. Slick and sophisticated.

Cons

• Plastic Build – These feature a large amount of plastic. It does feel thick and doesn’t creak much but certainly doesn’t give off a premium feel either.

Mackie adds to its popular MC series of headphones with the MC-40BT. The only Bluetooth option in its headphone lineup.

These headphones tick several of the right boxes. The sound quality is fantastic for headphones in this price range. Inviting and balanced with plenty of punch. The connectivity is superb and the styling is on point.

The fully collapsible design is also great for travel and the included carry case is excellent. While not the most premium feeling set of cans these are easily among the best wireless DJ headphones you can buy today.

Pioneer HDJ-X5BT Review

• Great Sound Profile – For headphones that are relatively entry-level these offer a satisfying sound profile. Not overly bass-heavy and plenty of detail throughout the midrange and top end.
• Solid Build Quality – These headphones feature an abundance of plastic and feel light. But despite this, they do offer a good level of robustness. Good balance between price and build quality.
• Good Isolation – DJ headphones need isolation and these do an admirable job of keeping sound out. Equally great for DJs as they are for people that travel frequently.
• Clean Styling – A slick and clean design that isn’t over the top. But if you do want some extra pizzaz there are a number of different colors available.

Cons

• Bluetooth Issues – The Bluetooth can be a little temperamental. Some reports of dropouts and strange connection behavior.

Pioneer has taken the popular entry-level HDJ-X5 and added Bluetooth connectivity into the mix. The end result is an impressive pair of wireless cans that can comfortably pull double duty.

These charge up in 3 hours and offer up to 20 hours of playback. Pairing is easy and for the most part stable though some people have reported issues. The sound quality is also impressive with plenty of character to the audio profile.

As with most Bluetooth headphones, there are latency issues so not ideal for DJing. But a wired cable is included for when you want to get behind the decks.

A solid all-rounder without a huge price tag.

Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT

• Satisfying Sound Profile – For an affordable pair of Bluetooth headphones, the ATH-M20xBT has excellent audio quality with decent bass, superb mids, and clear highs.
• Low Latency Function – Activating this function decreases the latency noticeably making these a good choice for watching movies and gaming.
• Outstanding Battery Life – With 60hrs from a full charge these go the distance. A rapid charge is also available to get 3hrs of battery life from just 10 minutes of charging.
• Good Value For Money – Excellent features while maintaining a very approachable price. Lacks accessories but is still excellent value.

Cons

• Exposed Wires – Connecting wires from the earcups to the headband is something I don’t like to see. A potential point of failure if pressure is applied to them.

The superb Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT2 might be a little too expensive for some people. In that case, the low-cost ATH-M20xBT is an excellent alternative worth considering.

The Bluetooth functionality is fantastic, with an excellent range and handy controls that are easy to use and navigate. The addition of a low latency function also sets it apart from other cheap Bluetooth headphones. The included cable also ensures you can comfortably use these with your DJ equipment.

The build quality is a little underwhelming, and the presence of exposed wires is not ideal. But even with these minor issues, the ATH-M20xBT offers exceptional value for money and a warm and inviting sound profile.

• Good Audio Quality – The sound quality is impressive. A nice balance between most frequencies with a distinct and tight low end. Audio quality is also improved if using them in wired mode as opposed to Bluetooth.
• Color Selection – With an excellent selection of colors available you can express your own personal style. Extra accessories packs are also available to mix and match colors.
• Attractive Price – An affordable price point that still delivers excellent sound quality. If you are on a tighter budget these are excellent value for money Bluetooth headphones.

Cons

• On-Ear Design – The clamping force and padding coupled with the on-ear design does lead to some discomfort. Not ideal for long listening sessions.

The Pioneer HDJ-CUE1BT headphones have a lot to offer DJs that require a Bluetooth set of headphones. They are very loud while still maintaining solid isolation. The coiled cable is long and enhances audio quality when used. A must when DJing. The cups rotate as well which is another excellent feature for DJs.

Battery life is long at 30 hours with a 2.5 hour charge time. Plenty of depth to get you through your day. Where it does fall short is comfort. After a couple of hours the fatigue does set in and you do begin to distinctly notice them.

Despite this, they have a great colour selection and an impressive list of features. When you factor in the price point it makes these customizable headphones a great set of cans.

Sennheiser HD 450BT Review

• Engaging Sound Profile – The HD 450BT offers a solid sound profile that has ample character and definition The lows and mids in particular are impressive with excellent presence.
• Attractive Design – Smart and sophisticated-looking headphones. Embellishments are at a minimum, ensuring that these blend seamlessly and won’t draw attention to themselves.
• Superb Battery Life – Often manufacturers stated battery life times tend to be a little exaggerated but not with the HD 450BT. These can last up to 30hrs on a full charge but they don’t support fast charging.
• Reasonably Priced – For the number of features on offer and the robust build quality, these headphones are reasonably priced. An excellent balance between quality and price across the board.

Cons

• Tight Grip – These headphones offer reasonable padding but the clamping force it rather tight. If you have a more prominent head you’ll likely experience discomfort, especially over longer sessions.

The Sennheiser HD 450BT is a solid pair of headphones. The attractive and minimalist design will appeal to many people. Bluetooth connectivity is well-executed and simple to use, with the most up-to-date codecs for the best possible sound.

The closed-back design does give you some passive isolation, but there is also Active Noise Cancellation available. The punchy bass will appeal to DJs, as will the warm and distinct midrange performance, but the highs do throw off the balance.

A reasonably priced set of headphones that work well for DJing and for wireless day-to-day listening.

Sony WH-XB910N Review

Pros

• Good Build Quality – These feel solid despite the full plastic housing. They fold down to a more compact form but not as small as other headphones.
• Impressive Noise Cancellation – Sound isolation is solid with active noise cancellation. Audio leakage is also minimal. As a DJ isolation is front and center on my list of required features.
• Strong Bass – The low-end boost on these is great for lovers of bass. While for some it can be overbearing it is effective. Excellent for DJs that rely on hearing the low-end for beatmatching.
• Premium Features, Lower Price Tag – Inherits features and design from Sony’s more expensive line of headphones. Excellent value for money.

Cons

• Feeling The Heat – The earpads on these headphones do warm-up after an hour or so. Not the most comfortable especially in warmer weather.

The Sony WH-XB910N is another set of headphones worth considering. Audio quality is great, with a good balance across frequencies. They are accurate and tight for a pleasant listening experience.

The bonus of boosting the bass is satisfying. Normally, bass boost features can be a bit overpowering, but I found these to still maintain good clarity. A well-executed feature that few get right. You can further refine the audio output via the Sony app, giving you further control.

A good set of headphones that punches above its price point.

Behringer BH470NC Review

Specifications

Pros

• Super Affordable Option – There is no denying these are an excellent deal. With great features, it’s hard to find headphones this good at this price point.
• Noise Cancellation – Active noise cancellation option makes these a good option for DJs that travel. Plane noise or train noise isn’t a problem. Not 100% eliminated but certainly better than normal headphones.
• Included Accessories – The included zipper case is an excellent inclusion for people on the go. The airline adapter elevates it to the next level.
• Long Battery Life – Bluetooth lifespan of 30hrs without noise cancellation (20hrs with). Plenty of time for long haul flights or day to day use between charges.

Cons

• Over Emphasised Low End – The bass is front and center. For some this may be a benefit. But if you enjoy a more neutral response you’ll need to look elsewhere.

The Behringer BH470NC headphones offer plenty of features at a super attractive price. Bluetooth pairing works well and the added noise cancellation is a functional addition. These are also lightweight and comfortable thanks to the soft, protein memory foam ear cushions.

They are also well constructed despite the low price. Where these headphones do fall short is in the audio department. These are bass-heavy which may not be to everyone’s liking. But at this price, it’s hard to find better headphones.

An excellent budget choice for the traveling DJ.

JBL Tune 660NC Review

• Pleasant Sound – The JBL TUne 660NC offers a rich and dynamic sound profile. Minimal peaks and dips with a slightly emphasized mid-range. Clarity is high and delivery is smooth and inviting.
• Long Battery Life – With up to 44 hours of use from a single charge these offer exceptional battery time. Perfect for long commutes or for those that tend to forget to charge their headphones regularly.
• Reasonable Price – A balanced price point that isn’t too expensive but at the same time provides a decent level of quality.
• Breathable Ear Cups – Compared to most closed-back headphones these offer a surprising amount of breathability. Perfect for warmer climates or for people that hate sweaty ears.

Cons

• Mediocre Noise Cancellation – Despite featuring active noise cancellation, the isolation is rather average. I’ve seen better passive isolation.

The JBL Tune 660NC is another decent option if you want a wireless set of headphones. Bluetooth connectivity is reliable and the battery life is very long.

The sound profile is also impressive for headphones this cheap. The comfort level is both good and bad. The padding on the headband is sparse but the ear cups offer a high level of breathability. Build quality is fairly decent too for this price point.

One drawback is that the included cable is a proprietary option so you’ll be stuck with it. I would have preferred a more generic connection point.

While there are a few drawbacks these discreet headphones are still a solid choice.

When selecting Bluetooth headphones for DJing there are some things you need to consider. Here is our list of the most important features to factor in.

Flexibility

One of the most important features! You need to make sure the headphones have the option to still have a wired connection. Bluetooth is great for general listening but when DJing the audio delay makes mixing difficult.

To avoid sound lag you’ll still need to plug your headphones into your gear.

Due to the delay caused by Bluetooth, you’ll find it difficult to beatmatch. This is because the output in your headphones is about 1-2 seconds behind what is actually happening.

Noise Cancellation

You also want the audio needs to be clean and crisp. Likewise, you also don’t want any audio spillage. This is extra important if you wear your headphones on a plane or train.

Battery

The quality of the battery is one of the main considerations. You want them to provide plenty of hours between charges.

That way you can take them in the morning on your commute and use them all day if required without having to charge them up.

This becomes even more important if you travel a lot. It’s not always easy to find somewhere to charge up your headphones.

Design

Closed ear headphones are the recommended choice here. Whether they are on-ear or over-ear doesn’t matter. Also, pay special attention to how well made the headphones are. As a DJ, you’ll be putting them through their paces.

The headband should be well made, solid yet still flexible.

You also want maximum comfort for your ears. Swivel ear cups are also an added benefit that is worth having.

A good carry bag or even better a hardshell case are must-have accessories. This is the easiest way to keep your headphones looking and performing like new.

Even if a pair of headphones is well constructed they can be easily broken. Between listening sessions, it’s ideal if you can protect your headphones.
